Karlarn Study 2008

Sekanese expansion...

previous_______________________________________ next

This is my current project of most interest. Since the scope of my major project at university was quite small I did not get to explore all of the characters I wanted to. Here I am doing what I would have liked to have included, namely develop and create another race and play around with the movement.

I have roughed out some ideas for the Karlarn race, who are designed to be wolf-like in origin. I started with a more feline idea but the wolf idea seemed to stick. Once I had the basic shape mapped out I started working in Maya, using human references for the torso, arms and upper legs but switching to images of wolves for the remainder.

My next stage was to think of the clothing for the creature. I went through a few ideas on paper, some of them pretty terrible, until I settled on an outfit that worked. He ended up wearing little clothing since I wanted to show off the animal aspect of the character. Unlike the Ursea and Drrari characters from the original project I dont need to have changable outfits, so the clothing was modelled into the main mesh. This would mean less textures and a less complex rig later on.

I then moved on to the texturing of the model, using photoshop. The skin mess has one texture, the only other objects that are seperate are the eyes and teeth/gum sections. I am currently rigging the character, working on making an efficient set up for animation. I particularly want to have a decent facial rig, however I have not got that far yet! Please see the images below for sketches, textures and current model.
